Today, April 13th 2019 would have be Alfred Butts' 120th Birthday.

Alfred Butts invented Scrabble during the 1930s, so it him we have to thank for our involvement in the game today.

To celebrate here are two quizzes :

1. What are the front and back hooks to ALF ? (ie 4 letter words ending ALF and 4 letter words starting ALF)

2. What are the front and back hooks to RED ? (ie 4 letter words ending RED and starting RED)

There are 13 answers in all, which as today is the 13th is quite appropriate!

During late March/early April we had to restore various articles from backup.

We would like to thank Richard Porter for his hard work in restoring our wordplay items.

We are aware a couple of wordplay items are still missing and those that we have restored may be slightly out of chronological order. We hope that this doesn't spoil your enjoyment of our website. If you want more information about a wordplay item you think in missing please contact us immediately and we will be happy to help (see contact page).

Photos will be re-loaded retrospectively.

Today is  the Autumn Equinox.

What words of 4 or 5 letters can you make from the letters in the word EQUINOX. (Hint : you needn't use the Q or X in some of the words).

Below are sets of 4  letters each making 2 valid Scrabble words. The additional criterion is that each of the 4 letter sets contains either the J, Q, X or Z.

How many of the 56 answers do you know - remember each set has 2 anagrams ! ?

About half are everyday English words or relatively commonly played Scrabble Words, so try to get at least 28.

Well done if you get over 40 and exceedingly well done if you get over 50!
