To celebrate the 12 days of Christmas, here are 12 mini-quizzes. Each quiz is based on a word from the well-known carol.

 

You can undertake a quiz a day, or complete all 12 quizzes in one sitting.. you choose!

The answers are given below..and are well spaced out so you can check one quiz, without seeing the answers to another.

As its Christmas, there are hints to the number of answers, and a reasonable number of answers to achieve.

1.       What are the anagrams of PEAR ?

(Hint, there are 4 anagrams, try to get at least 3).

 

2.       What 7 seven letter words can you make with TURTLE and a blank ? 

 

(Hint, there are 8 words, 4 in everyday English, 2 others very guessable, and 2 obscure)

  

3.       What are the hooks to HEN ? i.e what 4 letter words end -HEN or start HEN- ? 

 

(Hint, there are 3 front hooks and 3 back hooks…can you get more than the 3 common words?)

  

4.       What are the anagrams of BIRD + a blank ? 

 

(Hint, there are 8 to find, try to find more than 5).

  

5.        What are the hooks to RING ? i.e what 5 letter words end -RING or start RING- ?  

 

(Hint, there are 5 in total, 3 of them in everyday English… can you find the other 2 ?)

  

6.        What are the hooks to LAYING ? i.e what 7 letter words end -LAYING or start LAYING- ? 

 

(Hint, there are 6 in total, 3 of them in everyday English, another 2 are very guessable)

  

7.       What are the anagrams of SWAN ? 

 

(Hint, there are 4, try to get more than 2)

  

8.       What are the anagrams of MAIDENS ? (I know its MAIDS in the song!)  

 

(Hint, there are 4, try to get at least 2)

(Hint, there are 4 words, and they are all BACK hooks. 3 are easy.)

  

12.   What are the anagrams of DRUMMER and a blank ? 

 

(Hint, there are 3 words. One is very easy, another an everyday word…if you get the 3^rd... well done it is very obscure!)
